Chapter President: If a chapter exists in the state where a Governor is elected that person is automatically the state Chapter President; works with Chapter Executive to lead the state ACC organization. The Chapter President and Governor are the same person.
Chapter Executive: non cardiologist administrator who manages the state Chapter.
ACC Connection
ACC Chapters, while incorporated as a separate entity, share the mission, vision and logo of the national American College of Cardiology.
ACC Mission
The mission of the American College of Cardiology is to advocate for quality cardiovascular care – through education, research promotion, development and application of standards and guidelines – and to influence health policy.
ACC Core Values
Professionalism - The interests of patients are primary.
Knowledge - The College must promote growth, dissemination and knowledge about cardiovascular medicine.
Value of the Cardiovascular Specialist - The cardiovascular specialist makes a distinct contribution to medical care that should be recognized and enhanced.
Integrity - Honesty, compliance with legal requirements and ethical behavior are essential in all activities.
Member driven - The College and its major activities must be led by active members and must promote volunteerism.
Inclusiveness - The College involves a broad range of volunteers that reflects the composition of its membership.
Purpose of Chapter
The purpose of the Chapter shall be to contribute to the mission of the American College of Cardiology, to learn the needs and wants of the chapter membership and relay those to the College leaders, to address the local needs of the Chapter members, especially with regard to clinical education, working environment and quality of care initiatives, to serve as the voice of the cardiology community in the state by advising local and state government and professional organizations on issues related to cardiovascular disease, and to work with members of the Chapter in influencing legislative and regulatory efforts affecting the practice of cardiology and quality patient care.
Responsibilities of District Councilors
Chapters are directed by Councils. Council members often are elected to be the state Governor and Chapter President. Councilors must attend Council meetings, and participate in the decision-making process. They serve as a bi-directional liaison between the state constituency and the Chapter leadership to relay concerns and facilitate action by Chapter members when necessary.
