As leadership changes hands between a Governor and her/his Elect, or two Governors within our large states, Chapters/states must recognize the changes in communication and action to execute a smooth transition.

Please use the checklist below to faciliate your leadership changes:   

 

        ð       Communication

 

o       How does each person prefer to communicate?  E-mail? Conference Call?

o       Do you have each others correct contact information?

 

ð       Chapter Executive Roles and Responsibilities

 

o       Review the attached list of responsibilities – identify any new or expected needs.

o       When does the Chapter Executive contract expire?

 

ð       Council Leadership

 

o       When and how does the Council meet?

o       How is the Council structured?

o       What role does the current Governor expect the Governor-Elect to play at Council meetings?

o       What type of decisions does the Council typically make?

 

ð       Fiscal Health of the Chapter

 

o       How are the majority of the revenues generated?  Dues?  Sponsorships, Etc?

o       Where are the Chapter’s major expenses?

o       What are the current dues? Does the Chapter need to raise dues?

o       How much is in reserves and not operating budget?

o       How is the budget generated each year?

 

ð       Upcoming Events

 

o       What are the next events/activities that are in the planning stages?

o       What are the long term events/activities the Chapter has agreed to do?

o       Are there any annual or traditional events that the Chapter needs to reevaluate?

o       Are the events/activities of the Chapter consistent with the members’ wants and needs?

 

ð       Moving Forward

 

Identify at least three steps that each person – Governor, Governor-Elect, Councilor and Chapter Executive - is going to take in the next 3 months to ensure a smooth leadership transition
